The Channon markets are a bit of an institution in the rainbow region. Nestled in the hills just shy of Nightcap national park, vendors from all around gather for the vibey Channon markets. It’s $2 to park, but the parking is incredibly well managed and between all the vegan, hippy evironmental lefties everything is really very clean and well maintained. I had barely finished eating my Butter Chicken™ when a market worker offered to take my recyclable plate away.
Of course, there are a lot of markets every weekend around the Byron area, but the Channon markets might be the pick of them. It’s a great spot and the vendors are a good mix of new, old and crafted stuff. Massages, clothes, herbs (for food and fun), organic produce, furniture, art, novelties, books, etc. There’s always plenty of music and busking going on too.
I took a GPS map on the way out from the market’s to Lismore, but if you are comig from Byron Bay I think the best way is to head through Bangalow, then on the road to lismore (Bangalore-Lismore Road) you’ll see a signed right turn to “The Channon” from there as you hit The Clunes. There are some “no through road” style signs that are a bit confusing, but just press on and you’ll find the signage pretty good as you go.
