A native rodent, the water rat is found in estuaries and waterways and breeds in holes along their edges. Its small eyes and ears are all that is required to prey on almost everything small than it living in the water, including insects, fish, mussels, snails and more.
The water rat is one of only two of Australia’s amphibious mammals, the other being the Platypus.
