The Azure Kingfisher enjoys dense habitat close to wetlands, lakes and watercourses. Matthew spotted 3 or 4 in a particular area through the wetland and we sat a moment to watch them pass. this one got quite close and I took some much closer photos than this small grainy one, but I must have been too excited for when I got home I found the 3 close-up photos were terribly blurred! So unbelievably frustrating. I really wanted a photo of this species though, so I did my best to post process this.

The Azure has a long bill typical of most kingfishers, and catches small fish true to its name for food. Alcedo azurea grows to about 18cm.
