I noticed this beetle after observing a bush in the front garden that had been decimated by something, leaving holes all over the leaves and a skeleton of the former vegetation. Turning the leaves, the culprit appeared to be beetles.
Using the reverse macro technique I set the focus manually and moved in to get a close view, trying hard to get the focus on the eye I snapped off about four photos of which this one turned out to be the nicest exposure and focus.
The short depth of field is due to the reverse macro, which does not offer much DOF at all. It can still be used to great effect though.
