The great tragedy of the Caper Whites, who have returned this year and can be seen anywhere from the victorian high country to the south east coast to Queensland, is that their annual migration is entropic. I’m not sure of the evolutionary importance of the migration, but every year they return from Queensland, where they successfully breed and fly south where they breed and feed until they die. Ironically, only the ones who remained in QLD (probably near Capers) have a means to survive as caterpillars until spring returns whereupon the doomed march of the Caper Whites begins again.
