I started the Deography Record project as an anti-theft measure. It automatically snaps a photo using the Macbook Pro built in iSight camera each time the laptop lid is opened, and then uploads the photos to an FTP or web server when it next connects to the internet.
I figured if my laptop ever got stolen it would upload the rouges mugshot to my webserver. Its been running for over a month now and collected quite a disturbing array of photos of myself. I wouldn’t want to unleash that on anybody of course, but felt like sharing the HOWTO with the apple community.
Anyone with an apple computer that has a built in iSight web camera can do this and you can find instructions by browsing to https://deography.com/record.
UPDATE The project appears to have piqued some interested in the community with several popular Apple websites running the story including –
