They just get better and better every year. It used to be a few crackers at midnight, or a rocket or two perhaps. This year however the backyard pyrotechnicians held nothing back. Every fifteen minutes for an hour after midnight, loud volleys of fireworks crackled like lightning into the night. I grabbed my camera after the third time and took this photo from inside my front window, you can see the outline of the street light pole as fireworks explode a short distance away.
Despite a ban on fireworks in all states except ACT, the sale and use of fireworks continues.
A fire was extinguished tonight on Nail Can Hill after bushland caught alight moments before the new years eve countdown.
