Less common in the winter months, the Meadow Argus is sometimes mistaken for the Painted Lady, an extremely common species across Australia. As well as the lesser ‘eyes’, the Meadow Argus has two prominent ‘eyes’ on the upper wings and the name ‘Argus’ comes from the greek myth about a giant with 100 eyes. It literally means ‘an alert or watchful person’.
