I saw this at a market today and couldn’t resist buying it. I’ve always liked the nautilus shell cross section ever since I read about natures golden ratio. That is, that this image can be divided into sections, each 0.618054 times smaller than the last and this ratio appears not only throughout nature but also in human constructions dating back thousands of years. It is perfect in an aesthetic sense and is naturally pleasing to our sense of balance and visual harmony but also mathematically perfect where 0.618054 has 6 decimal places and ends nicely there there, unlike pi which continues ad infinitum.
There are shadows in this image as I had to use daylight then isolate the shell in post processing.
