Jacky Lizards extend from QLD down the eastern edge of Australia and across to SA. In Albury their range overlaps with the Nobbi Dragon. They eat small inscects like crickets and beatles and are “sit and wait” predators that wait for food to pass them by before making the effort to move. Unlike skinks that use olfactory methods for communication, Jacky lizards, like most dragons, use movements and gestures such as push ups and waves to interact with common species.
UPDATE – It’s not a Jacky at All! Thanks to Reptile Expert Damian Michael for pointing this out for me : ” Jacky’s are in Albury but the Nobbi is by far the dominant species. You’ll notice subtle the differences in your pictures. The most obvious is Jacky’s more rugous scalation, Nobbi’s are less rough looking. Jacky’s scales, especially on the body are different sizes whilst Nobbi’s are smaller and more uniform . Also, whilst colour pattern is not a reliable diagnostic feature both the Nobbi and Jacky are displaying their respective typically patterns. ”
