Red Belly Black Snakes are commonly seen in dry forests and depending on the weather can be very quick moving. Unlike brown snakes their temperament is much more placid and their alarm in the presence of humans is quite obvious as they will flee readily. This one was photographed near Beechworth and quickly slithered into a hollow stump.
