A predominantly Australian bird, the Royal Spoonbill is also observed in the countries and islands around the region. It’s unique “spoon” shaped bill allows it to dig deep into the soft, muddy earth in wetlands and mangroves to sweep out insects, crustaceans and even fish. I love watching them move along the banks slowly searching for food, or relaxing in the swampy trees as this one pictured is doing.
