Kneeling in the treated water, the area was already ”on the nose” but none so much as I when I knelt to feel the surface of the turtles back. I continued to take photos and was overwhelmed by a foul smell I naturally assumed would be from the ”poo pond” I was sitting in. The long necked turtle emits this horrible odor as a defense mechanism. More common than the Murray turtle, I found this species in a relatively shallow pondage at Wonga Wetlands.
