Unique to tidal sand-flats and mangroves, Solider Crabs are well known for being seen in huge numbers and look very much like an “army” moving across the dunes in search of plants and scraps to eat. Interestingly, they have evolved to walk forwards unlike many of their other crab relatives. I snapped lots of photos but wanted to show the scale of their groups, which at times appeared to stretch for as far as I could see. Their group sound is a “clicky-clacky” cacophony that almost sounds like white noise.
