This cloudy mountain sunset was taken in Byron Bay, NSW.
The word “Utopia” is latin for “no place” and this scene was actually taken in my laundry.
In fact, this is a piece of bluestone basalt sitting in a tea saucer of hot water and liquid nitrogen. It was photographed with the afternoon sun through the laundry window.
I found this piece of basalt in a field just outside my house where it may have sat for about 24 million years after it was spewed out of Mt Warning as volcanic lava and hardened to form the northern NSW / southeast QLD landscape.
Here is the illusion revealed …
