Cirrocumulus are one of the least common of various cloud formations, Being high level clouds, they are made up of ice crystals and the strips and gaps are caused by the degeneration of cirrus or cirrostratus clouds with with warm air from below which causes air to rise and fall within the cloud as the ice crystals turn into water vapor.
