Anna and I chartered a small speedboat to take us out to some snorkelling hotspots on Aitutaki (Cook Islands) but were up against some pretty severe weather. Instead of calling off the trip, our captain tried to move around the cells as they passed over and we’d jump in for a quick swim where we could. At one point we were quite far from the boat as the storm broke over us and the water quickly turned opaque. Travelling in the off-season through the pacific islands can be rewarding as you miss the tourist swells, but you are more likely to run into some severe tropical downpours like this one.
