During the goldrush the creek was sluice dredged and pillaged by its population of 6000+ miners mostly Chinese, Irish and Australians who had all come to seek their fortunes. I myself have found beautiful red crystals in the creek (I have a miners license) much to the amazement of friends I’ve been swimming with. Reidy creek has an incredible diversity for fossicking with everything from diamonds to gold, sapphires to rubies.
In the typical summer heat at Folk Rhythm and Life however, the creek is a godsend, a heavenly reprieve from the sweltering sun and often hot tent sites. Many choose to bath uninhibited, sans clothes and nobody seems to mind.
