Yesterdays storm was well reported in the media today as causing havoc around northern NSW and QLD for the second time in a week causing floods and devastation. As the storm front passed over I was immediately taken with the sudden and powerful wind sweeping across the ground. Within about a minute the rain and lightning storm came over me and I ran for cover under the back porch. This was almost futile with wind whipping the rain sideways. Luckily I had a plastic bag in my pocket which I tied around the camera on the tripod and kept taking photos with the infrared remote. I didn’t get a lot of lightning that afternoon, but here’s one nice exposure. It’s not as dramatic a photo as the storm itself was but as you know, I really love capturing lightning. Capturing it in the daylight like this (although darker than normal) is very difficult compared to my other night shots. If you haven’t seen it already, my photo series as a time-lapse is available as a video on You Tube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFBtaW0zQb8&fmt=18
