”Eyes” are a shape that occur throughout the natural world as deceptive fakes, on the wings of butterflies, a leopards spots, caterpillars, butterfly fish, rays, sharks and so on. The peacock’s dazzling display capitalizes on this motif to attract the attention, and hopefully the affection, of a mate. For most species eyes are a challenge, a threat and a defensive symbol. For others, like us homo sapien and our friend the peacock, they simply say – come hither.
