Birds, mammals, reptiles and insects depend on the night sky and the moon, not just for light, but for direction. It’s estimated a BILLION birds die in the USA every year because the lights of New York City disrupt their migration. How many countless species have suffered just because we feel safer (but aren’t actually), with a streetlight wasting electricity all night, every night? At no cost to ourselves, but great savings, turning out the lights would decimate global carbon emissions overnight and improve the lives of animals everywhere – ourselves included.
