There is a lot of space, in space. But there is also everything, so eventually stuff hits other stuff. Sometimes a meteor hits a woman napping in her lounge room and sometimes your entire galaxy smashes into someone else’s which sounds disruptive but is likely to be mildly inconvenient – because there is a lot of space in space, even between the stars in galaxies.
