If you have to get up at 3am to see it, is it really a “great” comet? 😆 C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) this morning as seen from Cape Byron. The tail is definitely naked eye visible if you know where to look, but otherwise it’s easy to miss (see widefield image) as the sun rises. In the darkness though, it’s quite spectacular. It has reached “good” status for sure, and if it’s survives it’s lap around the Sun in the next two weeks and it brightens over our sunset, then it may truly become “great” – fingers crossed!
Could help but process one more shot from C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) from Australia. After plate solving the stellar area I’m measuring the tail at 8-9 degrees long.
7 x 10s / F4.5 / ISO 1600 ~ 100mm Canon 6D Mk II.
