27 x 2 minutes exposures on this smaller but deservedly famous target, the Eagle Nebula! It has the Messier designation 16, as in the machine gun, M-16. You may remember it as the location of that very famous Hubble image “The Pillars of Creation”, which are those three spires in the middle pointing downwards.
I don’t have Hubble’s clarity but it’s certainly a buzz to image the same thing and see the same shapes using my own equipment from my own backyard!
Amazingly, studies of the “Pillars” in infrared reveal that they are most likely already destroyed by supernova activity, but we are looking at light from the past, when they still existed.
