We’ve got some kooky looking galaxies in the Southern Hemisphere but this isn’t one of them. M83 is a classic barred spiral galaxy. If a cartoonist or a child is asked to draw a galaxy, this is probably what it would look like.
This took many nights and BlurX does some heavy lifting here to sharpen what the weather softened for me, but the 20 minute long hydrogen exposures really helped to show all that glowing red nebulae throughout the arms!
