This amazing patch of sky is not commonly photographed for some reason and is new for me. It’s certainly fainter than some of the more popular targets but it is huge and detailed if you get enough data. It’s a star forming region dominated by hydrogen emissions but also dark swathes of dust and gas whose extinction may resemble a wolf to some viewers. If you zoom in closely you can clearly see background stars behind the dark extinction areas and many star forming pillars. The star forming areas are dominated by young blue stars, and much of the background areas have a higher concentration of older orange stars.
