This spiffy looking nebula is M17, but also known as Omega, Swan, Checkmark and Horseshoe, is a HII rich region in the dense and bustling Sagittarius area of the Milky Way. I captured it last night in 75 minutes worth of exposure time in it’s natural RGB colour, a typical pink-red emission. It has a similar morphology and star forming activity as the more famous M42 Orion, but we see this one “edge on” rather than “face on” as with do with Orion. Celestron 9.25″ Edge HD, Lepus 6.3 reducer and QHY12 CCD. #astrophotography
