For 4 hours only during an entire lunar month, the letters X and V mysteriously appear on the moon’s surface, as the terminator shadow cuts the moon in two halves. Of course, it’s not a mystery, just a nice play between the rocks, the sun and the shadows that astrophotographers challenge themselves to capture.
Can you find them in this photo?
I’d like to say I rose to the challenge and carefully planned my timing and exposures to capture this phenomenon but in actuality I just got lucky. I’d already taken the photos this weekend when a friend on Google+ (Kevin Franklin QLD) shared his lucky capture of the X and V also. I didn’t even know it was a thing.
